The House that Dorothy Built

In preparation for our trip to Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, MAR 7th, please familiarize yourself digitally with the mid-century designed home by Dorothy Riester and built in 1959. WK 5 & 6: Mid Century Modern Design

This week we will begin our investigation of what has come to be referred to and recognized by many as 'mid-century modern.' We will begin this week with a general overview, discussing how the principles of modernism came to be adopted generally in mass culture and became an integral feature of consumer society in the years following WWII. In the weeks that follow, we will focus on modern design in the US and in Europe specifically.
